The Coal Cracker Classic is the resurrection of a bike race that was held in Tamaqua, PA over 6 years ago. Through the dedication of enthusiastic volunteers and the assistance of many local business and organizations, we have been able to once again bring this unique race back to our community. Please come out and support/race our event to ensure it will be here again for many years to come! Below are answers to many frequently asked questions about the event. If you have any other questions please message us through this event page or our facebook page (search Coal Cracker Classic). Also check out the race promo video on YouTube at the link below! Thanks for your interest and support and we look forward to seeing you on race day!
Our race is unique because the course is located on OLD MINE LAND. This provides a style of riding that is specific to the coal region. A lot of people describe the course to have a "BMX" style feel to it. The course is also single speed friendly and very fast!
What is the course like?
The course is predominately singletrack, but this is combined with some doubletrack. It has a few sections of short climbing, tight twisty singletrack, moderate rocky sections combined with some mud, a few fun drops, and there are even a few optional bridges.
From the South: Take Route 309 North to Tamaqua. At 3rd light, go left. Go through town. At the end of town, the road will split, go right (follow sign) and go straight until you see it on your left-hand side.
From the East: Take Route 209 West through Tamaqua. Go through town. At the end of town, the road will split, go right (follow sign) and go straight until you see it on your left-hand side.
From the West: Take Route 209 East. As soon as you get to Tamaqua (past Hope's Towing) make a hard left, and then an immediate right (follow sign). Go straight until you see it on your left-hand side.
